What would it be like to live your life at home the way you do at Burning Man?  Are there things about the culture, the lifestyle, the philosphy that you have incorporated into your daily life?  Aside from the dust and all that open sky what is it about that thing in the desert that allows us to step outside the box and make new choices?

Whatever it is some people are finding a way to keep that magic elixir going all year long.  Many do it right where they are, having given up the trek to the desert long ago.  Some still pack it all up and haul it out to the playa every year, or when they can.  The common thread is the art, the creativity, the costumes, the community and the unique perspective on how things ought to work in a do-ocracy. They found it out there, and now it’s going on right here, and all over everywhere, and Xina has been blogging about it over on the Burning Blog.

As you wander into your camp at the end of an amazing week at Burning Man, your friend turns to you and says, “I wish I could live like this all the time.” Your immediate response is to yell, “What, are you freaking crazy?” Followed by a list of reasons from food to hygiene to exhaustion that it is not possible.  And ultimately, a seed is planted and you start to think what would a lifestyle based on your experience during that one week in the desert really look like.

Connecting with the local burner community has been incredibly enriching for me personally.  As a Regional Contact I get to meet all kinds of people doing amazing and fascinating things.  I’ve learned a lot and gotten inspired to learn more and do more, get out and be connected and make a difference in my community at home the way I do in Black Rock City.  Most of all it is fun to see what everyone is up to, the sheer numbers and the diversity of the creative work is staggering.

From the Golden Gate Bridge up to the Oregon border our vast region sparkles along the coast with artists and crafters of all stripe.  We have technological geeks and builders and makers and kinetic freaks, sustainably organic intentionally communal farmers too. North Bay runs the gamut, and I am here to tell you my friends, as the local representative of the do-ocracy if there is something you are into a bunch of other folks are doing it too, and they would love to hear from you.  Get out there and get involved, you will be surprised what you find!
