We had a great meeting the other day about CORE, and I’m very excited to report our progress.  All three designs were awesome (I bet Patricia is surprised how much love that Ghost Tree got. I had to convince her to submit her design for the poll).  Go Patricia!  love it.  the ghost tree lives…

the Placentree submitted by Paolo and Janelle also got a lot of love.  They are going on to build a scaled down, non-burnable version of same for this years burn.  Go team!  They are looking for local builders and compatriots in their build happening in Santa Rosa, and this intrepid RC looks forward to pitching in wherever she can.  More on that soon, stay tuned.

the lighthouse, now with the working title Screwedown Tighthouse, is in motion to submit its letter of intent.  We are working with the Arcata area based Pyroglyphics crew to emphasize the interactivity of the design, and present it for consideration.  Things that came up in the meeting…

  • a group from Trinity County led by Nathan wants to make something to add to the piece, a fertility related installation on the island, like a nest of sea turtle eggs that hatch throughout the week.  something they can make at home and bring with – love it!
  • stained glass panels made and donated by local burner glass artists for the top of the lighthouse where they will be illuminated from behind at night.  Each panel will go to a top donor in the kickstarter campaign!
  • remote participants could send images to be burned into the wood used to build the project so the image glows when lit from behind
  • nautical items brought *by you* for the dock or the island, set dressing for the lighthouse.  got rope?
  • I dream of a dinghy made by David Best out of temple wood sitting at the dock.  I know, but a girl can dream…
  • little metal doo dads that we stage inside the piece so they are there the next day for people to fish out of the ashes, you know like tiny turtles or little teensy versions of giant metal spinning wings.  just sayin : D
  • something that will blow your mind it’s so cool and I cannot tell you!  you will have to come work on the piece to find out!

I am stoked to the brim with wow for all the CORE happening right now.  SO very cool to see all this art coming out of the two or three meetings we’ve had so far.  love it : D

Salon will be on February 19th in a new location, stay tuned for more on that and other film festivals near you.
